A short film on the scientific principle of ‘Emergent Properties’

SciFilmIt (previously known as Exposure) Hackathon is a science filmmaking association, which trains scientists in communication, and shares its films with the general public and children to engage them with science through cinema. It organises events where participants have just over a couple of days to make a film.

Originally attended as a filmmaking participant in 2016, where our team’s film won the inaugural Public Audience vote. After this, I was invited back to be a mentor yearly on numerous other hackathons. As a mentor, I am assigned teams to guide them in the production of their film. In addition, I deliver presentations to PhD students, scientists and science communicators on how to make short films.

This project has been supported by the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), the University of Lausanne, and the University of Geneva, amongst others, and has now expanded abroad.
